MARKET HISTORY

The Vintage Fashion Market is a unique event in France, organised by the sudents of the Fashion University of Lyon.

The year's fashion market in 2009 will be placed under the sign of music.

The theme of the Vintage Fashion Market 2008 will be the SIXTIES.
A song of the Beatles on the radio, a dress by Mondrian, a pair of high-heeled shoes, tam tam stool with acid colors: a little wind of craziness will blow on the Vintage Fashion Market this year.

The original idea of Nadine Gelas, dean of the Fashion University in Lyon, was to create a vintage fashion event in France which would gather all vintage enthusiasts to an exchange market place.

The Vintage Fashion Market was born.
A market is by definition popular and open to everybody.

Visitors admission is free.

Didier Ludot, a Parisian fashion antiquarian, owner of two shops within the Royal Palace Gallery in Paris and famous vintage assessor at an international level, honored us to be our sponsor until 2008. He helped develop the market. it Nowadays, it is an appointment not to miss for many fans.

As its name denotes, the Vintage Fashion Market is a real market, where everybody can come to sell or buy clothes, accessories of a certain prestige and value, from the 50’s to the 80’s (fabrics, embroideries, buttons, shoes, jewellery, hats as well as some design objects and furniture).

The exhibitors are as much individuals as collectors, professionals or designers working on the Vintage theme, from everywhere in France and Europe. The first edition of the Vintage Fashion Market was held on March 30th in 2002, at the Wholesale Market in Lyon.

It was a surprising success considering that it was put together very quickly and with little financing. About thirty exhibitors had eight hundred visitors, all equally surprised by the innovation and atmosphere of this event.

During the sixth edition which was held on April 21st 2007, the number of exhibitors increased to 288 in 2007 compared to the 230 in 2006. The number of visitors increased as well (15, 000 people under a warm and sunny weather) This record attendance was justified by the participation of new exhibitors and specialists, a very good reception of the “Designer’s Place” (“Carreau des Créateurs”), with a huge success for the auction sale and an explosive party afterwards which showed the festive aspect of the Vintage Fashion Market.

2008 was memorable. Despite a gloomy weather, more than 20 000 visitors surveyed the aisles of the market in a psychedelic atmosphere. Hippies, "68'ard, curious, passionate and fashionistas were looking for vintage treasure with over 300 exhibitors from around the world (Europe and USA).
